Aadhaar Card for differently-abled: The Aadhaar card, a 12-digit unique identity number used for verifying identity and residence, has become a mandatory document for identification. To offer an inclusive approach, Aadhaar’s enrolment/update processes are accessible to all, including those with disabilities.
Those whose biometrics, such as fingers or iris, cannot be collected can register via Regulation 6 of the Aadhaar (enrolment and Update) Regulations,2016, which provides for the enrollment of anyone requesting to enrol with biometric exceptions.
Aadhaar Regulation 6 (Enrolment & Update) allows residents to be enrolled with biometric exclusions, which include the following provisions, among others:
6(1): Only iris scans of residents who are unable to give fingerprints due to injuries, abnormalities, amputation of fingers or hands, or any other pertinent cause shall be gathered when they apply for enrolment.
6(2): The Authority will handle exceptions for residents who are unable to provide any biometric information required by these regulations in the enrolment and update software. The enrolment process will be conducted following any protocol the Authority may specify for this purpose.
Additionally, residents who are disabled and unable to attend the Aadhaar facility to enrol in Aadhaar can seek home enrolment through UIDAI by calling the UIDAI toll-free number 1947 or by sending an email to help@uidai.gov.in.
