The Maharashtra government has ordered the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), and other relief teams to be on standby to assist in case of any untoward incidents.

The South Central Railway on Monday morning cancelled at least 18 trains running through Maharashtra due to heavy rainfall in the state. On Sunday night, at least 12 trains were cancelled, with many being diverted or shortly-terminated or re-scheduled.

Based on the assessment of evolving situation and prediction of rainfall by IMD, teams of NDRF airlifted from Vadodara, Gujarat will land in Mumbai and will be deployed in following districts of Maharashtra— one team each in Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri. Meanwhile, Barvi dam is levelled at 72.5 m at 11 pm, still at danger mark but the flow has reduced, district officials informed.

An Indian Air Force helicopter on a sortie to rescue flood-affected people in Maharashtra's Palghar district had to return here on Sunday evening due to heavy rains and poor visibility, officials said. On being alerted by the state administration that 15 people were stranded in Buranda village in Palghar, over 100 kilometres from here, an IAF Mi-17 chopper was sent, an official said. (PTI)

At least 400 people from a residential area near the Mithi river in Mumbai were shifted on Sunday after its water level crossed the danger mark following heavy rains in the city, an official said. The city and its neighbouring areas have been witnessing incessant rains for the last two days, causing flooding in many areas. As the water level of the Mithi river here crossed the danger mark on Sunday, around 400 residents of Kranti Nagar area located near it were shifted to a civic-run school, an official from the disaster management cell said. The Maharashtra government on Sunday sought six more teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to tackle the situation arising out of heavy rains in Mumbai and its adjoining districts. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and its disaster management cell were fully prepared and monitoring the situation in the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a statement. "The state government is in touch with the NDRF, Army, Navy and other agencies also," the CMO said. (PTI)

Meanwhile, two teams of Army, three teams of Navy are being deployed in the region along with 2 teams of NDRF that helped in Nandkhuri village rescue.
While the Navy teams are stationed in Kalyan, Army teams are being sent to Shahapur and one team will be kept on standby for Thane city.
The first lot of villagers from Nandkhuri have been airlifted.
As many as 35 people are trapped in their houses in Juhugaon near Thane's Khadavli. Minister Eknath Shinde has requested for the people to be airlifted.
"We are waiting for clear visibility, within half an hour the rescue operation should take place in Juhugaon. 36 villagers are stuck as they all have single-storey houses and water is close to 5 ft in the area," Thane Collector Rajesh Narvekar told.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that a request has been made to the Air Force to help evacuate the trapped villagers.
In view of the heavy downpour in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has requested deployment of six additional NDRF teams for assistance.
In a statement issued, the CM also said that a request has been made to the Air Force to help evacuate 35 villagers stuck in the Nandkhuri village near Thane's Khadavli.
The Thane district administration also asked residents of villages located on the banks of Barvi and Ulhas rivers to shift to safer places as there was flooding in those areas due to the release of water from the Barvi dam.

Water from Pinjal river entered the villages in the Vikramgadh tehsil of Palghar district. Five staff members of the local primary health care center were rescued by locals in Malwada village following the increase in water levels.
Four injured in a landslide at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Goregaon East. The injured have been shifted to hospital.
The injured people include Mohammed Hussain Shaikh (15), Zubeda Banu Shaikh (70), Ahmad Hushain Shaikh (14) and Abdul Gafar Shaikh (42). The condition of all the people admitted is stable.
A Mumbai airport spokesperson told news agency PTI that two incoming flights were diverted and six had to make a go-around due to the heavy rains.

BMC has issued a warning of heavy rainfall coupled with high tide of 4.83 meter at 2.29 pm. The civic body has appealed citizens to not venture into the sea.
"Rainfall to continue with gusty winds. High tide of 4.5 m plus today afternoon, and surcharged Mithi River. Avoid outing as far as possible, the sea will be rough, fisherman warnings, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued in place," the MeT department said.
"Due to very very intense rainfall throughout, there is accumulation of water in different sections of Central Railway Suburban section of Mumbai. We are reviewing situation every 30 minutes," the Central Railway tweeted.
