Maharashtra received heavy rainfall for weeks, first during the withdrawal of monsoon and later due to the impact of Cyclone Kyarr. Maharashtra has recorded 1,200.22 mm of rainfall till date, as against the 1,131.2 mm of rainfall it normally receives in this period.
The cyclone brought post-monsoon showers accompanied by high-speed wind across South Gujarat, including Surat, Navsari and Valsad districts, on Saturday. Wind speed reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour is expected off South Gujarat coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into east-central Arabian Sea till October 29 and into west-central Arabian Sea from October 28 to November 1, IMD said in its latest weather bulletin.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places over Rayalseema, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep for tomorrow. It also added that heavy rainfall can be expected in south Karnataka. Meanwhile, it said that the sea condition is very likely to be phenomenal, and advised fishermen to not venture into the sea.
Super cyclonic storm 'Kyarr' over the Arabian Sea is likely to gradually move towards the Oman coast but would cause rainfall in some parts of Gujarat in next few days, a MeT official said on Monday. "While Gujarat is spared of the super cyclone, it would bring non-seasonal rain at isolated places," IMD's Ahmedabad centre director Jayanta Sarkar said. "The super cyclonic storm Kyarr is likely to move towards the Oman coast during the next five days. However, the system would bring light to moderate rain at isolated places during the next five days," he further said. (PTI)

The cyclone formed over the Arabian Sea on Friday. It fell under the ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ category, with wind speed going up to 170-180 km/hour. This system was brewing at a location about 200 km off Ratnagiri on Maharashtra coast since early this week. Copius rain has reduced the moisture deficit in Marathwada, where almost all the major dams reported a good increase in water levels. But the heavy rain has damaged a variety of crops such as rice, soyabean, bajra, maize and cotton. Authorities are trying to ascertain the extent of the damage.
