— Two Opposition leaders — Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and All India Forward Bloc leader G Devarajan — were asked to make certain changes to their speeches made on Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR) during the allocated broadcast time in the run up to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

— The ECI decides how much time each recognised national and state party will be allotted before the start of the election campaign. Hence, statement 2 is not correct.
— National parties receive a minimum of 10 hours of airtime on Doordarshan’s national channel and at least 15 hours on its regional networks. They also receive 10 hours of broadcast time on AIR’s national hook-up and 15 hours on regional AIR stations. State parties receive a minimum of 30 hours of telecasting time on the relevant regional Doordarshan channel and AIR radio station. Hence, statement 3 is not correct.
— Parties and speakers are requested to submit transcripts of their speeches three to four days before recording, which must be cleared by the appropriate authorities at the respective AIR and Doordarshan stations.

— After the conclusion of Lok Sabha polling in Nagaland, the state is gearing up for another election next month: its long pending municipal polls, which last took place in 2004.
— The elections for Nagalands’ urban local councils have long been a source of contention, notably in terms of women’s reservation. If the polls are held successfully next month, it would follow multiple failed efforts, judicial actions, and political resistance that resulted in riots, the resignation of a chief minister, and the creation of a new municipal act last year.

Urban Local Bodies are responsible for a wide range of functions delegated by state governments. — As soon as the grants under article 113 have been approved by the House of the People, there shall be tabled a Bill to provide for the appropriation from the Consolidated Fund of India of all funds required to meet—
