Business tycoon Anand Mahindra responded to a video showing US travel vlogger Max McFarlin being stunned by the cleanliness in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The now-viral video shows McFarlin relishing street food and showing several dustbins placed on the roadside.
The video begins with McFarlin panning his camera on a man who picked the food he dropped, and disposing of the plate in a bin. Then, he puts his used plate in a bin and shows several steel dustbins on the streets. “This is why this place is clean. Indore. I’ve always seen somebody cleaning,” he says in the video.
“Oh wow! I think this is why Indore is so clean too. No like paper and stuff. So re-wash that. I mean you got a place to wash hands. They got everything. It’s just so clean here. There’s no paper no plastic going everywhere. I just can’t harp enough on the cleanliness,” he says while keeping his plate in the bin.
Reacting to the video, Mahindra wrote, “Cannot help dreaming: If this were to be replicated throughout the country.”

Shared on May 22, the video sparked a plethora of reactions. A user said, “India would look very different if more cities had residents like those in Indore who prioritize cleanliness.” Another user commented, “It is the people who make it clean and people who make it dirty. It’s all about people.”
“This learning should start very early from childhood and schools to inculcate this culture which would remain with them throughout,” a third user reacted.
For the seventh year in a row, Indore was ranked as the cleanest city in India under the Central government’s annual Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023, announced on January 11.
