In a strange turn of events from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, a newlywed couple’s fight over samosas spiraled into a full-blown family clash, now under police investigation.
The incident occurred on August 29 when Sangeeta asked her husband Shivam to bring her samosas. Shivam claimed he lost his money on the way and returned empty-handed, angering his wife. She refused dinner and called her relatives, who allegedly assaulted him and his mother.
Matters escalated further at a panchayat convened at the home of former pradhan Awadhesh Sharma, where Shivam alleged his in-laws attacked his family with belts, leaving several injured. Videos of the brawl quickly spread across social media, fueling online chatter.
“My wife asked me to bring samosas, but I couldn’t. A panchayat was held, but instead of resolving the matter, her family members beat me and my family. We have lodged a police complaint,” Shivam told India Today. His mother added that the assault was triggered by her daughter-in-law refusing food over the missing snacks.
Police have since confirmed the case. “On the evening of August 29, a fight broke out between two parties. A complaint has been registered and one youth injured in the fight is undergoing treatment,” Prateek Dahiya, circle officer (CO), Puranpur, told India Today.
Responding to the viral video, Pilibhit Police also clarified on X that a case had been filed on September 1 at Puranpur police station and that “further legal proceedings are underway.”
