Believe it or not, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed against the Niantic Inc., makers of the super popular Pokémon Go, an augmented reality game allowing people to catch Pokémons virtually in their phone. The PIL – filed by Alay Anil Dave in the Gujarat High Court – says the game hurts the religious sentiments of people because it shows ‘eggs’ in places of worship.
The petitioner has said eggs are considered as non-vegetarian food, and it is blasphemous to carry non-vegetarian food inside a place of worship of Hindus and Jains.
“People playing the game get their points in the form of eggs which generally appear in the places of worship of different religious groups. To find eggs in temples of Hindus and Jains is blasphemous, and therefore my client has sought ban on the game from the country,” said petitioner’s lawyer Nachiket Dave.
But it’s hard for people on social media to digest what just happened in the country – after all, a PIL filed against a GAME for ‘hurting’ religious sentiments! Really?! People are, in fact, finding it extremely difficult to find logic behind the plea. Many asked if the petitioners don’t have a better job to do while others found it extremely comic to be taken seriously.
Well, the argument didn’t end at that. The plea seems to be concerned about people too. Among other reasons given against the game are that it infringes upon the privacy, and it poses threat to life and limbs of the players, who have to walk around to score a point.

There’s no denying the fact that the game is rage in the country, but it surely doesn’t hurt religious sentiments of all. It might hurt a knee or head at the most. If it’s equally difficult for you to wrap your head around this piece of news, do share your thoughts in the comments below.
