Balenciaga, the renowned luxury fashion label, has unveiled a clutch that looks like a shoe. We would have started writing this piece saying, “You won’t believe this,” but since it is Balenciaga, you just might. The new shoe-like clutch is leaving people scratching their heads, wondering if they’re supposed to wear it or carry it.

Influencer and entrepreneur Varun Grover didn’t hold back in reviewing the unconventional piece. In a video shared on Instagram, Grover said, “Balenciaga ne ek naya joota nikala hai (there’s a new show from Balenciaga), which is actually a clutch. As a shoe, it is nothing, but they just added a zipper, and as a handbag, it is high fashion.”

“Imagine keeping this on a book. Ab aap soch rahe book ko choomu ya nahi, kyunki joote ke bhesh mein yeh toh clutch hai” (Now you’re wondering whether to touch the book to your forehead as a mark of respect because, disguised as a shoe, it’s actually a clutch). He also said that this accessory challenges everything we’ve been taught.

Grover pointed out the awkwardness of deciding where to place it. “Ise leke kabhi cafes mein gaye toh kahan rakhna hoga, table pe? Zameen pe? (If you take it to a café, where do you keep it—on the table or the floor?)”.

Imagiing its fate in temples, Grover said, “Mandiron mein toh yeh bahar hi rakhna hoga. Lekin fir bhi yeh chori nahi hoga, kyunki chor bhi sochega iska doosra kahan hai (In temples, you’d have to leave it outside, but it won’t get stolen because even a thief would wonder where the pair is.)”

In his video, Grover referred to the product as “Peak Balenciaga,” and said, “There is no better way to describe it.”

The video which has more than 1.6 million views on it was posted along with a caption that reads, “Is it a shoe? Is it a clutch? Is it a trigger bomb for us Indians? It is just Balenciaga.”

Netizens reacted to the video and the product in the comments section of the video.

One user wrote, “Paise kaise carry karenge iss clutch mein? (How will you carry money in this clutch?)”

Another user said, “A purse with which you can beat snatchers.” A third user commented, “Iska dusra kaha hai (where is the other one.)”

This is not the first time Balenciaga has launched controversial products. In 2023, the brand launched a towel skirt for a whopping $925 (Rs 80,000, approximately) and broke the Internet.
