Television star Nakuul Mehta recently recited a powerful poem “Khoob ladi mardaani” for Vinesh Phogat, the wrestling star who announced her retirement after disqualification from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Shared by Mehta on Instagram, the poem is winning hearts on social media.

“Fighter. Olympian. Champion. A poem dedicated to one of our all time greatest. The one and only Vinesh Phogat,” the actor captioned the video.

With over 7,25,000 views, the video has won plaudits and reactions from wrestler Ritu Phogat, and celebrities including Gauahar Khan, Supriya Shukla, Aahana Kumra, and others. Reacting to the video, a fan wrote, “You took the rage and heartbreak and turned it into this beautiful catharsis @vineshphogat we love you.” Another fan commented, “Very well said Naku and ajax and it’s very true she is the fighter champion Olympian forever.”

“I respect you a lot for speaking the truth and supporting the truth always,” a third fan said.

Earlier, Mehta slammed veteran actor-politician Hema Malini over her statement on Phogat’s disqualification. She had said that Phogat should have been careful with her weight.

The TV star reacted to it, calling the statement “disgraceful”.

Phogat was disqualified before competing for the gold medal in the 50 kg category for being overweight by 100 grams. She demanded that she be given a joint silver with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who had lost to her but was later promoted to the final after her disqualification.
