Residents of Bengaluru’s Yelahanka had an unexpected encounter after torrential rains this week: fish were spotted swimming in the waterlogged basement of Kendriya Vihar, the apartment complex where late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam once stayed. Photos of residents and firefighters proudly showing off their “catch of the day” while pumping out the flooded area have since gone viral.

Journalist D P Satish shared the video with the caption, “Go fishing! Kendriya Vihar, Yelahanka. #BengaluruRains.”
Just a couple of days earlier, the same user posted a video that went viral, showing how Kendriya Vihar was flooded, troubling the residents. The post read, “Former President of India, the late APJ Abdul Kalam, was the most famous resident of this apartment, Kendriya Vihar at Yelahanka.”
After two days of heavy downpours caused by a low-pressure system over the southeastern Bay of Bengal, Bengaluru was brought to a standstill. Today, the city woke up to a calm morning, with clear skies and warm weather. However, forecasts predict that the rain will return on October 21. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in anticipation.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged opposition parties not to harm Bengaluru’s reputation by pointing fingers at the issues the city faces during rain. He assured that the government is making every effort to tackle the situation.
