Nirbhay is India’s first indigenously designed and developed long-range sub-sonic cruise missile. We stumbled upon some cockpit video of the missile in flight, a first for any Indian weapon of the kind.

Nirbhay was last flight-tested from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Balasore, Orissa in October 2014. The DRDO had then called the entire mission, from lift-off till the final splash down “a perfect flight achieving all the mission objectives”.

During the test, according to DRDO chief Avinash Chander, the “missile maintained an accuracy better than 10 meters throughout its path and covered a distance of more than 1,000 km”. The successful indigenous development of ‘Nirbhay’ cruise missile will fill a vital gap in the war fighting capabilities of our armed forces.

This was the second launch of Nirbhay cruise missile. The maiden launch in March 2013 was a partial success.
