WhatsApp added a new feature earlier this year that allowed users to lock individual chats by setting up a password or using biometric authentication methods like face unlock or fingerprint. Last month, the Meta-owned messaging app introduced the ability to hide the conversation from the main screen by letting users set up a secret code to access locked chats. Here’s how you can quickly lock chats and set up a secret code to find them.
1. Open the app and long-press the conversation you want to lock.
2. Press on the three-dot menu that appears on the top right of the screen and tap on ‘Lock chat’.
3. Click on the ‘Continue’ button and authenticate using either your fingerprint or face unlock.
That’s it, your conversation will now be locked. It can be accessed by swiping up on the ‘Chats’ tab on WhatsApp and tapping on the ‘Locked chats’ button.
WhatsApp also allows users to set a secret code to quickly find and unlock their locked chats. However, this code is different from the one you use to unlock your device and requires users to set it up manually.
1. To use the ‘Secret code’ feature, head over to the ‘Locked Chats’ window.
2. Now, tap on the ‘Secret code’ option and WhatsApp will ask you to create a secret code. This can be an emoji or a word with at least four characters.
3. Type in the secret code, press on the ‘Ok’ button and you are good to go.
The secret code you just set up also serves as an alternative to unlock the Locked chats section in case you are unable to use the fingerprint or face unlock options.
If you turn on the ‘Hide locked chats’ toggle from the Chat lock settings, the conversation will disappear from the chat list as well. To see them, you need to type the secret code you just set in the search bar.
