Elon Musk’s X is losing its appeal on the App Store and its name might be the reason. The platform, which was once the popular social media site Twitter, now seems to be nostalgic for its former glory with a new tagline on the App Store.
The odd “Blazing your glory” tagline on the App Store has been replaced by a simpler “Formerly Twitter.” This seems like a step back for Elon Musk, who has been trying to erase all traces of the platform’s birdy past — tweets are now simply called ‘posts’ and there’s no sign of the word ‘Twitter’ on the app anymore.
The name change from Twitter to X happened in July, and it was greeted with confusion and criticism from users who liked the old name and logo. The change also caused technical problems, such as broken links and domain errors.

The rebranding also affected the app’s popularity and downloads. According to one researcher, X fell more than 30 places in the “Top Downloaded” category on the App Store, trailing behind rivals like TikTok and WhatsApp. A recent poll found that 69 percent of users still call the app Twitter and search for it accordingly.
X seems to be aware of its identity crisis and is trying to fix it. The new tagline “Formerly Twitter” is a clear attempt to remind users of what the app was and what it can still offer.
