The Google app on Android is getting a new ‘Share’ button that lets users quickly share links that appear in search results without having to open them. This means users no longer have to open the link and copy the URL to share it with others.

First spotted by Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii on X (formerly Twitter),  the new ‘Share’ button appears above the ‘About this result’ section and can be accessed by tapping on the three-dot button that appears to the right of the search result.

Clicking on it will open the familiar Android system share sheet where you can choose to copy the link, share it with someone or send it to an app. Previously, users had to tap on the link and wait for the page to load before they were able to copy the link. Unlike web browsers, the Google app does not allow users to long tap on a link to get its URL.

However, the share button may not appear for certain search results. For example, there is no option to copy a link that redirects users to apps on the Google Play Store.

And while desktop users can just right-click on a link to copy and share it with others, clicking on the three-dot button to the right of the search result will open a small panel that tells you more about the website and similar to the mobile, share the link, save it or offer Google feedback about the search result.

Last year, the Google app on Android received some new features like Notes, which lets users leave and read notes on search results. The tech giant also introduced the Search with Generative AI (SGE) functionality, which, as the name suggests, offers AI-generated search result summaries.
