Brave’s ‘Forgetful Browsing’ keeps you hidden from websites you often visit

Dubbed 'Forgetful Browsing', the new feature will automatically delete data like cookies and cache and log out users, thereby preventing websites from determining if you visited it earlier. Here's how you can enable it.

Brave is a popular web browser that comes with several privacy-focused features and additional functionalities. In a recent blog post, the company announced that Brave will soon be getting a new feature called ‘Forget browsing’. The upcoming feature will prevent websites from identifying users who visited earlier.

Developers said that despite the browser protecting users from third-party trackers, they wanted a feature that addresses privacy concerns from first-party tracking and this is where ‘Forgetful Browsing’ comes in. Apart from automatically cleaning cookies, it will also delete data and cache stored on your hard disk when you close a website and log out users from websites it is enabled on.

Brave says users won’t have to fiddle around with the settings after setting it up ‘Forgetful Browsing’. The new feature can be enabled by heading over to Brave’s settings menu, navigating to the Shields section and clicking on the ‘Forget me when I close a site’ option.

If you want to enable or disable the feature for a specific website, just visit the website, click on the shield icon on the right side of the address bar, choose ‘Advanced controls’ and turn it on or off.

Unlike how ‘Shields’ works across domains, ‘Forgetful Browsing’ will only apply to sites. It will be available on desktop with Brave 1.53 while Android users will have to wait a bit more since it will be coming on the mobile version with v1.54.
