Instagram today announced it is rolling out a bunch of new features that make it easier for users to stay connected with their friends and family over DMs. From message translation to QR codes for group chats, here’s a quick look at what’s new.
As the name suggests, the new Instagram feature allows users to translate messages without having to switch or use other apps. To do so, simply hold down on the message sent or received in another language ,tap on the “Translate” button and the translated message will appear right below the original text.
Instagram now allows users to share songs with their friends and family without having to leave the DM screen. If you want to quickly share a song with someone, press the sticker icon that appears to the left of the text field and tap on “Music” to search for the song you want to share.
Like WhatsApp, Instagram now allows users to pin a particular message at the top of a chat, making it easy for both people to quickly find it. If you want to pin a message in DMs, hold down on the message, tap on the “Pin” button and you are good to go. However, only three messages can be pinned in a conversation at a time.
Want to add someone in a group chat? Simply open the group chat where you would like to add a person and tap on the group name at the top.
Here, you will see an invite link, tapping on which will show a “QR code”, which can be shared with friends and family both in real life and in DM. One thing to note here is that the admin of the group chat can change the QR code at any time.
