The race to create a humanoid that can be perfect assistants to humans is intensifying. A new video from German robotics manufacturer Neura shows a robot called 4NE-1 performing various day-to-day chores. The humanoid is shown to move boxes quite efficiently, deftly ironing clothes, chopping vegetables, and sorting objects.

The German startup is reportedly collaborating with Nvidia to build some of the first ‘cognitive robots’ that are capable of performing multiple tasks. Incidentally, the video dropped at a time when Nvidia had been demonstrating a series of tools for humanoid robots at the Siggraph conference.

Although it seems the video is made using a series of edited pieces,4NE-1 can be seen excelling in each task. It needs to be noted that the extent of the editing and under what circumstances the robot achieved the feat is not known yet. Regardless, the latest video from Neura brings some hope, as we would likely see future humanoid robots accomplishing an assortment of tasks.

What is a 4NE1 humanoid robot?

“We serve humanity” is the tagline of the robotics startup. According to the official website, 4NE-1 is a cognitive humanoid robot designed to assist people in areas of life. The company claims that its cognitive technology platform has been by daily industrial use. The humanoid robot is powered by the company’s proprietary Neura Ai API for multi-modal and intuitive interaction.

It comes with 3D vision capabilities which allows it to recognise objects, environments, and gestures. When it comes to safety, Neura claims that 4NE-1 comes equipped with the company’s unique touchless safe human detection sensor. Besides, it gets its sense of touch from Force-Torque Sensors that have been integrated into the robot.

When it comes to appearance, the 4NE-1 is 180 cm tall, weighs 80kg, has a payload capacity of 15 kg, and has a speed of three km per hour. It comes with exchangeable forearms which according to the company makes it useful for all areas of life.
