Google, on Tuesday, launched its highly anticipated Pixel 8a with “premium AI features” and seven years of software support at a starting price of Rs 52,999. Available in four colours- Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain, the smartphone will be available for pre-order starting today, via Flipkart, and will go on sale from May 14.
The Pixel 8a is available in two storage options, with the base model offering 128 GB, and for the first time, the company has introduced a 256 GB variant of its A-series smartphone, priced at Rs 59,999.
Those who pre-order the Pixel 8a can get a flat Rs 4,000 discount, which brings down the effective price of the device to Rs 48,999. Besides, the company is also offering Pixel Buds A-Series at a discounted price of Rs 999, and there is also an exchange bonus of up to Rs 9,000 on select models.
Just like the rest of the Pixel 8 series, the latest entrant is also based on the Tensor G3 SoC, which enables AI experiences like Google Circle to Search, Best Take, Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, and more. The phone packs a 6.1-inch 120Hz Actua display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection with support for features like Always-on display with At a Glance and Now Playing.
Out-of-the-box, the phone ships with Android 14 OS, and it is eligible for seven years of major OS upgrades. The phone comes with a matte composite back, and matte aluminium frame along with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Google claims that Pixel 8a is its most durable device in the A-Series with a metal frame and camera bar. It is made using recycled aluminium, glass, and plastic.
The dual-camera setup on the Pixel 8a consists of a 64 MP primary sensor, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 13 MP selfie camera, all three cameras capable of recording videos at 4K resolution.
In terms of connectivity, the Pixel 8a supports dual SIM (nano physical SIM slot and an eSIM) with 5G support. There is also Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and Wi-Fi 6 support on the Indian variant, while the US version supports up to Wi-Fi 6E. A 4,492 mAh battery fuels the device with support for wired (18W) and wireless charging, and the USB-C port is compatible with the USB Type-C 3.2 standard.
