This update makes Ray-Ban Meta one of the smartest glasses in the market.

Meta has added three features to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, including live AI, live translation, and Shazam capabilities. In its latest update on December 16, users who signed up for the early access programme can now access these capabilities, and identify a song playing in the background directly on the smart glasses.

Among the three, live AI is the biggest upgrade. It adds video AI capabilities to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, where the glasses can see what you see and answer any question related to it in real-time, which works very similarly to Google’s Project Astra, powered by Gemini 2.0.

These features were first showcased at Meta Connect 2024 in September, and they are now being rolled out to early adopters who live in Canada or the United States of America.

A recent update added support for music streaming via platforms like Spotify and Amazon Music, and Be My Eyes.

Similarly, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses now support real-time translation between English and either Spanish, French, or Italian. When the other party is speaking in one of those three languages, you will hear it in English, and if they are also wearing Ray-Ban Meta glasses, they will hear your English response in the language that they are speaking. This will greatly help travellers, where language could be a barrier.

Last but not the least, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses can now recognize the music playing in the background. All a user needs to do is ask “Hey Meta, what is this song?” and Meta will come back with an answer in just a few seconds. This is definitely a handy feature, especially for those who love to discover local music while travelling, where it’s more intuitive when compared to opening the phone and asking Shazam the same question, as these glasses mostly stay on the face.
