SRH vs PBKS Highlights, IPL 2025: Abhishek Sharma’s 141 helps Sunrisers Hyderabad complete record chase to beat Punjab Kings

It sounds unfathomable, but by the time the second strategic time-out was taken in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s run-chase of 246, the result was all but decided. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head – dubbed Travishek after their exploits last season but yet to fire collectively this year – came up with a stunning 171-run partnership of 75 balls to ease past Punjab Kings’ massive first innings total of 245/6 in Hyderabad with nine balls to spare.... I think it was a fantastic total to be honest. Still making me laugh that they (SRH) chased it with 2 overs to spare. We could have taken a few catches, but he (Abhishek) was lucky. He was exceptional. In a nutshell we didn't bowl to our expectations, we have to go to the drawing board and make amends. The opening partnership (between Abhishek and Head) was phenomenal, they didn't give us too many opportunities to capitalize. The over rotation could have been better from our side. Ferguson can give you wickets, but that (injuries) happens, it's a part and parcel of the game. These are the learnings for us going forward. The other bowlers could have done the same though. Myself and Wadhera thought 230 was a good total, but I think the dew made it harder for us (during the second innings.) The way they (SRH openers) batted was out of the world, it (Abhishek's knock) was one of the best knock I have seen.

Shashank Singh back into the attack. Shashank to Klaasen, FOUR! SRH is getting closer and closer to the total with each delivery. Short and wide, pulled away at deep mid wicket. FOUR! First boundary for Ishan Kishan tonight. SIX! He muscles the pull over deep mid-wicket to end the over with a maximum. Six needed in 12 now.

Arshdeep Singh with his last over. Abhishek moves to 141 with a  FOUR off the first delivery. OUT! Ah, finally, finally this one in one-decade innings comes to an end. He mishits his slog and Praveen Dubey completes the catch at deep mid-wicket. Six from this over as 22 needed in 18.

Yash Thakur in the attack now. SIX! Make it 10th maximum for Abhishek in this innings. What can a bowler do here? He hits the full ball over wide long on before following it up with a FOUR! He moves to 135 which is also the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL. 13 from this over. 28 needed in 24 now.

Chahal with his last over of the spell. He was hit for 19 in this over in which Abhishek took 18 via two SIXES and a FOUR. This is some innings under pressure from this young man. He moves to 125. SRH go past 200 as well.

Arshdeep Singh back into action. SIX! Abhishek is in no mood to stop anytime soon. Half tracker and clubbed it over long on by Abhishek. The required rate is under 10 now. 11 from this over. 60 needed in 6.

Chahal continues. SIX! Head whacks it over mid-wicket for a huge six to start the over. OUT! Six and wicket for Chahal and he has a knack of taking wickets after being hit for a boundary. 171-run opening stand finally falls after Head holes out to Maxwell. Heinrich Klaasen into the middle. Abhishek Sharma takes a single to complete his CENTURY IN JUST 40 DELIVERIES! This is the Abhishek which we know. Fantastic knock.

Tough caught and bowled opportunity for Chahal after Abhishek darts one straight into the sky but a diving Chahal could not get a hold onto it. SIX! He rubs salt into the wounds. Pulls the short ball over wide long-on for a maximum. 100 up for SRH. FOUR! Width on offer for Head, he cuts it past backward point. Expensive over this. 16 off it.

Glenn Maxwell continues. Maxwell to Abhishek, FOUR! Another inside edge which runs to fine leg and Abhishek reaches fifty in 19 balls. Five singles and a wide make it a 10-run over.

Lockie Ferguson into the attack. He seemed to have pulled his hamstring and is unable to continue with his over. Marcus Stoinis to continue the rest of the over. FOUR! Short ball, Head shimmies down the track and slaps the pull towards deep mid-wicket. 83 for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Powerplay.

Arshdeep Singh continues. Three dots to start the over. FOUR! Short ball on off, Head slaps the cut over point. He gets two more FOURS to end the over with 12 runs.

Okay, so the chase is on. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma on strike. Arshdeep Singh starts with the new ball. He starts over the wicket against left-hander Head who lets go the first ball. Arsh keeps in on good length, swings away for the lefty. FOUR! Not in control but gets the runs. Opens the strike with a boundary. FOUR! This is good shot from Head. Low full toss at middle, clears the front leg and deposits even further into the stand. SIX! Slower one from Shami and Stoinis hits the biggest of the lot. SIX! Make it four back-to-back sixes and this is great finishing from Marcus Stoinis. 27 off the over. Shami ends the spell with 4-0-75-0.

Pat Cummins with his last over. FOUR! Cummins had bowled an excellent over, leaking just four from the first five balls before Stoinis sliced the last ball over mid-off to make it an 8-run over.

Harshal Patel with his last over. Maxwell is on strike, OUT! Full toss ball, Maxwell looks for a reverse scoop but the ball finds timber off pads. Maxwell departs with a 7-ball 3. Marcus Stoinis joins Iyer in the middle.He takes a single, keeping Iyer on strike. OUT! Short ball, cuts it straight to Travis Head. The dangerman departs and Harshal gets his fourth. Five off this over.

Eshan Malinga, with his slingy action, returns to bowl his last over. Iyer is on strike, FOUR! Skipper leading from the front. Over pitched ball on off, Iyer slaps it with full force over extra cover. FOUR! Another fuller ball, angling into the leg and Iyer swings his bat, gets thick edge which runs at fine leg. FOUR! Repeat of the previous boundary, this too runs at fine leg. FOUR! Make it fourth four for Iyer in this over and he is running away to get his first IPL hundred.

Zeeshan Ansari with his last over. Two singles, one each for Iyer and Maxwell to start the over. SIX! Tossed up ball on off, enough width for Iyer who goes inside out over extra cover for a big six. 10 from this over. Strategic time out taken.

Harshal Patel back into the attack as well. OUT! Two quick wickets for Hyderabad and they look elated. Harshal bowls over the stumps to Shashank, finds a gap in bat and pad to find him in front. Good review and overturn the decision. Second wicket for Harshal. Glenn Maxwell joins Iyer at middle. Maxwell plays two dots. FIVE WIDES! This will hurt. Harhsal was bowling a brilliant over but made an error in line down the leg. Still a nine-run-over.

Eshan Malinga comes back into the attack. FOUR! Clever but very risky shot from Wadhera.Full ball on off, he reaches the line and scoops it behind. OUT! Yorker length ball, Wadhera looks to play behind but completely misses length and Malinga finds him front for LBW. His second wicket of the night. Shashank Singh is the new man in. Shami returns to the bowling attack. Wadhera gets a single, bringing up 150 for Punjab in just 12.2 overs. FOUR! Iyer reaches his fifty in just 22 balls. Top top innings from skipper who is having a phenomenal IPL 2025. FOUR! Wadhera won't stand behind. Down the leg ball, plays it fine for a boundary. 11 from this over.

Zeeshan Ansari with his third over. SIX! First boundary hit against Ansari today. Flighted ball, width on offer and Iyer plays it over long-on for a maximum. FOUR! Another tossed up delivery on off, Iyer reverse sweeps it past backward point. SIX! Tossed up again, Iyer gets behind the ball and plays it over long-on. Abhishek gets a hand on the ball but midfield it for a six. 20 off this over.

Skipper Cummins back into the attack. Wadhera starts the over with a single. SIX! Clean striking from Iyer. Short from Cummins, he bowls it wide of outside off stumps but none of that mattered as Iyer pulls it away over long-on. Cummins follows it up with two dots and two singles. 9 off the over.

Eashan Malinga continues. Wadhera plays the full toss to mid-on for a single. Malinga follows it up with a wide down the leg. SIX! Classic Iyer bat swing which fetched the ball over cow corner. SIX! Eshan Malinga comes into the attack for the first time in this season. Good start for him in this over. Bowls two dots in the first four deliveries. OUT! Eshan strikes big! Instant impact from the Sri Lankan. He bowls from an angle, length ball on off and Prabh plays straight to Cummins who completes a good catch at mid-off. Nehal Wadhera, in at no. 4, starts with a single. Just three from this over.

Harshal continues. FOUR! Boundary to start over. Prabhsimran continues the good work after Priyansh departs. Tad short from Harshal and he slams it towards long-on fence. SIX! He anticipates length and Harshal gives him that, full swing of Iyer was enough to take the ball over deep mid-wicket. Pat Cummins returns to the attack. Skipper Shreyas Iyer is the new batter in at number three. Prabhsimran plays two rare dot deliveries before Cummins bowls a wide. FOUR! Early picking from Prabhsimran who plays the length ball on off over mid-off for a boundary. Shreyas Iyer gets of the mark with a couple after a midfield off the last delivery. Good over from sRH's perspective. 8 from it.

Harshal Patel, two-time Purple Cap winner has been brought early into the attack. Can he stop this firing duo? Priyansh takes a rare single to start the over. FOUR! Premeditates this shot and charges down the track but Harshal bowls a short ball but nothing can stop PBKS batters today. he just guides it past third man for a boundary. SIX! Priyansh is just sublime. Length ball and plays it nonchalantly over the bowler's head. OUT! Finally, some relief for SRH. Priyansh miscued it to Nitish Reddy but scored 32 off just 16 before going back. 13 and a wicket from this over.

Shami continues from the other end. Priyansh Arya starts with a bang. SIX! You just can't bowl short to this young man. He stands tall, again and hit it down the ground. SIX! How can you stop Priyansh? Early in the innings but he looks very dangerous. This time length given by Shami and Priyansh plays it over extra covers. FOUR! Poor from Shami whose reply was low full toss that too on leg, Priyansh just flicks it with full control. SIX! This time it is Prabhsimran. He ends third consecutive over with a boundary. Full toss from Shami and Prabhsimran takes full toll on it. Slams it over suare leg and PBKS are off to a blazing start. 50 up. 23 from this over.

Pat Cummins from the other end. SIX! Take a bow young man, This guy just continues to impress with each shot. Short of length from Cummins and Arya stands tall to play it over deep square leg. FOUR! Overcorrection from Cummins and Priyansh plays it fine. FOUR! Prabh ends this over with a boundary as well. 16 from this over.

Shami starts over the wicket. Priyansh Arya gets going instantly and starts with a single. Prabhsimran slaps the outside off the delivery straight for a single but gets one free extra after Ishan Kishan fails to spot the ball which was camouflaged with the advertisement sheet. Wow, comedy of errors. It was a short run as only one given. FOUR! Short ball and Prabhsimran charges down for a boundary at mid-off. FOUR! Again. Pat Cummins: It's fine. I think we can chase anything. Not an ideal start. But we are training really well. Everyone is in a good space. We have lost a few in a row, but that isn't ideal. One change. Eshan Malinga comes in the side for Kamindu Mendis.

Shreyas Iyer: We are going to bat. In the last few games we have batted first, we have the ability to post good scores. We want to play some aggressive cricket, that's our mindset at the moment. We have seen that we don't have a fantastic record in the powerplay. We don't have that thought at the back of our minds. Every individual in our team play their brand of cricket. We got to be top notch, need to back our instincts. We have to keep repeating that again and again. Playing with the same team.

As an obvious pick for a batting-friendly venue, the team that wins the toss is expected to opt to bat and rake up a large total, thereby putting pressure on the opposition. Matter-of-factly, the bowlers from either camp are in for a difficult evening. As the match progresses, pacers are also likely to pick up wickets. Chasing big scores hasn’t been easy for SRH, and not batting first will most likely mean trouble for the hosts, who are collapsing in on themselves.
