MS Dhoni slammed the longest six of IPL 2024 during the final league stage match for the Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

With the Playoffs qualification on the line, Dhoni slammed Yash Dayal for a 110-metre six in the final over of a 219-run chase before being dismissed the next ball.

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik had tonked the ball on the roof of theChinnaswamy Stadium as he hit a monster 108 metre sixer against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, the second-longest six in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

Earlier on Monday, Heinrich Klaasen had hit a 106 metre sixer in the same match and thus joined Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer and Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran at the top of the standings for the longest sixes in IPL 2024.

Incidentally, Venkatesh Iyer’s 106-metre hit also came against the Royal Challenger Bengaluru (on March 29) in Bengaluru.

Pooran punished the bowling of Reece Topley in the 19th over of the first innings in the RCB vs LSG game, hitting the bowler for three consecutive sixers. The third one — where Topley attempted the slower ball and tried to go short outside off — was devastatingly landed on the roof over deep midwicket.

The race for the biggest six this IPL season is still hotting up with the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Liam Livingstone and Shivam Dube likely to enter the fray.

The IPL has witnessed the best six-hitters in world cricket unleashing some of the biggest maximums ever struck in T20s across 17 editions. The IPL 2023 season was the biggest six-hitting edition of the Indian Premier League, with a whopping 1,124 sixes hit during the tournament. Faf du Plessis, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain, had emerged as the biggest six-hitter with a 115-metre strike and also smashed the most sixes in the season (36).

Chennai Super Kings’ Albie Morkel struck one of the biggest sixes in the inaugural season in 2008. Interestingly, Morkel’s 124-metre maximum was equalled by Praveen Kumar in the same season – the two remain at the top of the list even after 16 editions.
