Yuzvendra Chahal, one of India’s leading leg-spinners, was dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup. The decision surprised many, as Chahal had been in good form in recent months.
However, captain Rohit Sharma categorically stated that he couldn’t have missed out on the pace bowling option to pick Chahal or R Ashwin.
“We thought about off spinner Ashwin and Washy (Washington Sundar) but right now you saw Chahal has to miss out and we can’t get him in because we can take only 15 and only way we could have done that is by dropping a seamer,” Sharma said.
However, the doors are not shut for Chahal.
“No doors are closed on anyone. Chahal has played lot of white ball cricket and if we need him we would find ways to squeeze him in,” said Sharma.
A few hours after the team selection, Chahal shared a cryptic tweet.
On not picking Chahal in the squad, chief selector Ajit Agarkar also shared his thoughts and said, “He is another terrific performer for India. Sometimes it is the balance of the team or the team combination.”
Chahal is one of the most successful leg-spinners in the world.
Chahal’s bowling is based on his ability to turn the ball both ways. He has a wide range of deliveries, including the googly, the flipper, and the slider. He is also very accurate, and is able to bowl yorkers and slower balls at will.
Whether Chahal will be recalled to the India team in the future remains to be seen.
However, he is a talented bowler and definitely has the potential to make a comeback.
