The MCC finally announced the 11 players who will complete the line-up for their match against Afghanistan at Lord’s. Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah was named in the line-up which will play the new Test nation on Tuesday.
Yasir has an impressive record in Test cricket and has been part of Kent in the County Championships. The leg-spinner has taken 14 wickets in 26 Tests and will join former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq in the 50-over per side game.
“Yasir joins the MCC team as the final piece in the jigsaw for this match and we are delighted he is able to play in this historic fixture,” said MCC head of cricket John Stephenson in a club statement.
“With Afghanistan having recently been awarded Test match status, it is fitting that they will make their Lord’s debut in this match and we hope that many of their UK-based supporters are able to see them in action,” the former England batsman added.
The MCC team will be captained by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. The team also has big names like former West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara.
McCullum, who led New Zealand to 2015 World Cup final in Australia, is currently part of Middlesex for the county cricket’s T20 Blast. His MCC side also includes England’s two big names in Samit Patel and Chris Read.
Both Patel and Read were part of the winning Nottinghamshire county team which won the One-Day Cup at Lord’s last week.
On the other hand, Afghanistan will have spinner Rashid Khan and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. Both played the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Afghanistan have been recently awarded Test status by ICC.
