Former Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch disagrees with India skipper Rohit Sharma’s post-match remarks that the World Test Championship (WTC) final should be played as a three-match series and the scheduling of the fianl a week after the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“In a big event like this, you need to have fair opportunities to both the teams. You know, a three-match series would be nice, but it’s about finding that window where it can be fit in,” Rohit told reporters after India succumbed to their back-to-back defeats in the WTC final.

Finch disagrees with Sharma’s remarks.

“I think it’s just the reality of the scheduling and the time constraints on fixtures at the moment,” he told sen.com.au.

“I’ve got no issues with it, I think if it’s drawn out over three Tests, what happens if a team gets annihilated? It becomes a bit of a waste of time.

“We all play sport for the wins and the losses… I don’t have any issue with it at all.”

Finch also lauded Scott Boland, whose double-wicket over in the first session of Day five sealed the mace for Australia. Boland finished with five wickets for the game and was the pick of the Australian quicks.

“He was outstanding, I think he’s well and truly sewn up that third quick spot in the first Test,” said Finch.

“I’m not sure of Josh Hazlewood’s injury return I guess, he’s had a couple of niggles that keep hanging around for him, so Scott Boland will definitely (play at Edgbaston).”
