Parthiv Patel is looking to make his way into the Indian team with injury to Wriddhiman Saha and for that, the Gujarat captain has to perform with the bat and with the ball. He’s done a good job with the willow in the third Test in Mohali against England. Now with another opportunity in the fourth Test in Mumbai, Parthiv doesn’t want to squander chances and he’s upping his performances with the gloves too.
In the 120th over of the first innings, England were cruising along with Jos Buttler and Jake Ball in the middle. As Ravindra Jadeja bowled to Ball who played it on the off side, the England pairing went for a double. With the throw coming from the outfield, towards the striker’s end, Parthiv had to perform the difficult task of grabbing a high return and then directing it towards the stumps.
He did get both the things done despite not being the tallest of players but by that time, Ball was back into the crease and safe.
The quick catch-and-release brought back memories of India’s limited overs captain and keeper MS Dhoni who has been known to be prolific with his glovework.
Sanjay Manjrekar, who is on duty as the commentator during the incident, observed, “Almost like MS Dhoni. But he just had a look, didn’t he? Got to be no-look to be like MS Dhoni”
Ball went on to score 31 for England and England were bowled out for 400 on Day 2 of the fourth Test.
