India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights: India are 4 wickets away from a win at the end of Day 2.

India vs Bangladesh (IND vs BAN) 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights: Bangladesh survived to the end of Day 2, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah having put up a gutsy fight in the last session, to finish at 152/6 against India at the 2nd Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. After it had looked like India would wrap up the game on the second day itself, with Ishant Sharma (4/39) rampaging to his 9th wicket of the match, the middle order fightback ensured that the game would have a third day. India are 4 wickets away from a win and Bangladesh are 89 runs away from making India bat again at the end of Day 2.

India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights:

20:33 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Stumps

The sixth wicket signals the end of the day. Bangladesh finish the day trailing India by 89 runs. Mushfiqur (59) and Mahmudullah (39*), who was retired hurt in the last session because of a pulled hamstring, can be expected to start the Bangladesh innings on Day 3. After it had looked almost certain that this match would be over within 2 days, those two did well to put up a gutsy fight.

20:29 (IST)23 Nov 2019
6th wicket

Another short ball gets the batsman playing a shot he was in no position to play. Umesh digs one in short. Ball keeps climbing on Taijul. He can only offer a soft catch to Rahane. And that is the end of play for Day 2.

20:19 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Mushfiqur given out again. Again overturned.

Mushfiqur given out lbwagain. Again, he goes for the review. Again suggests he got some bat on to that. And again, turns out he is right and Marais Erasmus was wrong. That took a big deflection off his gloves. 150 comes up for Bangladesh. Mushfiqur is taking his team from strength to strength. Will now look to take his team to the end of the day.

20:17 (IST)23 Nov 2019
144/5 after 30 overs

Last few overs of the day remain. Bangladesh trail by 97 runs. Taijul Islam has gone the blockathon way with Mushfiqur still marshalling this resistance. There have been 4 overs from Ashwin in these first 30. Jadeja yet to be brought on. Taijul gives Ashwin the charge. With the amount of swing being generated, no wonder that the Bangladesh batsmen are more confident against the spiners.

20:09 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Bangladesh trail by 99 runs

Increasingly, it is looking like India will have to bat again in this match. They are on a run of innings wins, but maybe not at the Eden. The deficit is into double figures. Mahmudullah, who retired hurt a little earlier, can be seen in the BAN dressing room. He can be expected to bat on Day 3 as well. The fight put up by the Bangladesh middle and lower order has made a match out of this when it had seemed this was going to be a rollover.

19:57 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Wicket

Breakthrough! India get a wicket after a long gap of almost 20 overs. Ishant picks up his 4th wicket of the innings and 9th of the match. Mehidy Hasan nicks one to Kohli at slip. BAN 133/5 after 26 overs
Taijul Islam comes in at No.8.

19:56 (IST)23 Nov 2019
50 for Mushfiqur

What a gutsy knock this has been from the former captain. Gets to his 50 in 54 balls. Came to the crease when Bangladesh were 9/3 and in danger of losing the match by today. Bangladesh are now safely out of the woods and will be starting to think of making India bat again. The deficit is down to just 108 runs.

19:49 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Six off a leading edge

Some amazing things have happened in this pink ball match. That is a contender for taking the cake! Mehidy Hasan hits a six - after the ball hits the leading edge of his bat. Nobody can quite believe that that can be a six. Sanjay Manjrekar says, "In all my years of watching cricket, I have never seen anything like that." Kohli looks shell-shocked at slip. Pujara, the third man fielder, who saw it sail over his head in bemusement, gives a wry smile. BAN 123/4

19:41 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Rahane drops a catch

Ajinkya Rahane's nightmare at slips continue. He drops Mehidy Hasan at first slip. Should have been taken by Rahane's usual lofty standards. Rahane dropped a couple in Indore and now there's one at the Eden. Ashwin and Rahane have combined to win India matches for so long, but not this month.

19:38 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin finally gets to bowl in this match. 2nd over of spin for India in the whole match and the first in this innings. Mushfiqur gets down on his knees and hits a strong sweep shot for four. That's his favourite shot, has not been allowed to play that so far. BAN cross their first innings score. BAN 108/4 after 22.3 overs

19:34 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Huge wide

Umpire Joel Wilson stretches out his hands like Christ the Redeemer as Shami bowls the widest wide to have been bowled in international cricket in years. Shami has failed to control the pink ball in this innings so far. Has gone for 30 runs and he is just into his 6th over.

19:30 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Another hour of play possible

We are now into the last hour of play for Day 2. Mushfiqur Rahim is timing and placing the ball extremely sweetly. He moves into his 30s. Mushfiqur needs to marshal this innings to stumps today. India still sticking to their pace trio with 21 overs bowled. Might the Mushfiqur-Mahmudullah partnership have done enough to save BAN from the ignominy of a defeat within 2 days?

19:20 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Mahmudullah retires hurt

This could be big! This could be the window India have been denied the last hour or so. Mahmudullah has to walk out of the field with a limp. Mehidy Hasan comes on to bat. Muishfiqur still out there but he could run out of partners fast if there is another barrage incoming from the India bowlers. It was him and Mahmudullah who put up a fight. How will things pan out now? BAN 82/4 after 19 overs

19:14 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Mahmudullah pulls hamstring

Mahmudullah calls out the physio while clutching his hamstring. How he has gone about his innings might have had something to do with that. Very unorthodox technique. And he has been running hard for the ones and twos. He is on 39 off 41 balls now. BAN 82/4

19:03 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Wicket. Decision overturned.

Mushfiqur given out lbw. He goes for the review straightaway. And there was an inside edge. Decision is overturned. Bangladesh live to see another day.

19:02 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Best partnership of match for BAN

There is a delicious duel going on at the moment between Shami and Mahmudullah. Mahmudullah manages to block out a short ball in the most awkward of ways. How he is adapting his technique is commendable though. Crouching very low. The amoung of swing in the air will be playing on his mind. Second innings Shami yet to strike. Bangladesh have not lost a wicket for almost 10 overs now. This is the best partnership for the visitors in the match. India still relying on their pace trio. No spin yet. BAN 68/4 after 16 overs

18:51 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Partnership

This is the counter-attacking partnership Bangladesh were looking for. With Mahmudullah having taken the initiative, this pair has added 50 runs now in just under 8 overs. Well, talk about runs coming against the run of play. There is a break in play now as Mushdiqur is struck on the helmet by Umesh. Marais Erasmus calls for a drink as everybody takes a breather. Mushfiqur was signaling that he was fine, but no chances are taken with head impacts these days, for good reason.

18:33 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Mini-resistance

No wickets have fallen for 4 overs. That's the longest period of resistance from the batsmen this innings. Right on cue, second innings Shami, who has a 1st innings average of 32 and a 2nd innings average of 21, is brought into the attack from Umesh's end. First two balls from him are bouncers. One outside the off stump. One outside the leg stump. Control with the pink ball seems to be of paramount importance. BAN 45/4 after 11 overs

18:22 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah

The two batsmen in the middle are Bangladesh's last hope of putting up a fight. No specialist batsman is left in the order after this. Substitutes Taijul and Mehidy are decent batters, but they are bowlers first. All of Bangladesh's hopes (of putting up a fight) rest on this pair it would seem. Both of them have played some good shots in their short stay so far. Have looked the most comfortable Bangladeshi batsmen on the day, by far.

18:20 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Wild wild swing

The pink ball is swerving around in the Eden breeze like nobody's business. Ishant pitches one far wide off the off stump line. The ball swerves, swerves some more, and veers past Wriddhiman Saha's outstretched left hand. Four byes. No keeper in the world could have stopped that. The Eden Gardens crowd is cheering every Bangladesh run. Many of the fans here will be hoping they can get their money's worth after having got tickets for the remaining three days. At this rate, this match is going to be the 22nd Test in history to be decided within two days.

18:11 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Wickets keep tumbling

And there's another! Ishant Sharma gets his third. The Indian pacers are hunting down the Bangla Tigers in packs. Ishant's first wicket after the restart also produces a wicket. Ishant keeps it simple, outswinger on a good length. Imrul Kayes nicks it to Kohli. BAN 13/4

18:09 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

India get a third just after the resumption. Umesh gets Mithun out on the second ball of the last session of the day. Umesh bowls a bouncer. Mithun, whou would have still been smarting from the Ishant Sharma bouncer, plays a nothing shot and gets caught. BAN 9/3

17:42 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Tea break!

A supposed concussion, a barrage of short balls and the bowling brilliance of Ishant Sharma. That sums up the start to the second innings of Bangladesh, and it's tea now. BAN are 7/2 after 5 overs.

17:25 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

Ishant Sharma is on fire, and it shows that India are going for the kill. A full length ball, a small nick and it's caught behind for Mominul Haque. BAN are 2/2 after 2.5 overs.

17:14 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

Shadman Islam and Kayes are at the crease. Shadman Islam is on strike with Ishant Sharma opening the attack. And there's the wicket, another classic LBW! Falls bang on the line and hits the left pad. BAN are 0/1 after 0.5 overs.

17:00 (IST)23 Nov 2019
IND declare, lead by 241 runs

After a small 16-run partnership between two people hailing from Kolkata, IND have declared at 347/9 after 89.4 overs. They lead by 241 runs, and with the twilight hours, can India make the most of that factor with the pink ball?

16:48 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

And another one bites the dust as Ishant Sharma is dismissed by Al-Amin Hossain for a duck. Another LBW for Al-Amin though. IND are 331/9 after 87.3 overs.

16:38 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

And now it's time for Umesh Yadav to leave. Bangladesh are clearly on the frontfoot ever since Kohli's departure. Abu Jayed gets his second wicket of the innings. IND are 330/8 after 86.3 overs.

16:36 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

Al-Amin Hossain rights the wrongs of Ebadot Hossain and traps India's experienced spinner. Ravichandran Ashwin departs for 9. IND are 329/7 after 86 overs.

16:28 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Ashwin punishes Ebadot

Ever since the captain's dismissal, it has been quite quiet on India's frontlines. But Ravichandran Ashwin amped up Eden Gardens with two consecutive boundaries to Ebadot Hossain. Nine runs extra though, two bye boundaries and 17 runs conceded from the over! IND are 328/6 after 85 overs, lead by 222 runs.

16:03 (IST)23 Nov 2019
WICKET!

What a stupendous catch by Taijul Islam! Virat Kohli is dismissed off Ebadot Hossain's bowling, and this is the breakthrough Bangladesh were looking for. The captain scored 136 from 194 balls. IND are 308/6 after 80.3 overs.

15:59 (IST)23 Nov 2019
300 up as Saha gains confidence

After Wriddhiman Saha (13*) came on to the crease, he hit a four and a three off Jayed's over. And with the home support behind him, he hits Taijul islam with a frontfoot cover drive. IND are 304/5 after 80 overs.

15:43 (IST)23 Nov 2019
BOWLED!

What a start! Abu Jayed with an in-seaming delivery, and as Ravindra Jadeja leaves the ball it hits the off-stump and off he goes  for 12. IND are 289/5 after 76.2 overs.

15:05 (IST)23 Nov 2019
IND in driving seat
15:02 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Time for lunch!

With this ton, Virat Kohli (130*) has joined the likes of Gundappa Viswanath, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sachin Tendulkar to have scored centuries in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. Meanwhile, it's lunch as the captain and Ravindra Jadeja (12*) pair up for 50 runs. IND are 289/4 after 76 overs, lead by 183 runs.

14:49 (IST)23 Nov 2019
A list of firsts

First to score hundred for India in: Test: Lala Amarnath (1933/34) | D/N Test: Virat Kohli (2019/20) | ODI: Kapil Dev (1983) | D/N ODI: Sanjay Manjrekar (1991) | T20I: Suresh Raina (2010) | D/N T20I: Rohit Sharma (2015)

14:43 (IST)23 Nov 2019
A quartet of boundaries

On a roll! The captain is unleashing his fury with perfect wrist movement and footwork. Four consecutive boundaries! Abu Jayed just can't believe it. 19 runs from Kohli, 19 runs in the over. IND are 279/4 after 71 overs.

14:29 (IST)23 Nov 2019
Century for King Kohli

Virat Kohli brings up another century and becomes second-fastest to 27 Test centuries equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record. He is only second to Don Bradman. IND are 257/4, lead by 151 runs.

14:04 (IST)23 Nov 2019
OUT!

Bangladesh finally get their much-needed breakthrough and it comes only after Ajinkya Rahane completed his half-century. Taijul Islam with the dismissal. IND are 236/4, lead by 130 runs.

13:58 (IST)23 Nov 2019
FIFTY!

Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane brings up his fourth consecutive half-century as he slams his 22nd Test fifty. Rahane's last four Test scores: 59, 115, 86, and 50* so far in this innings. IND are 228/3 (60), lead by 122 runs.

13:38 (IST)23 Nov 2019
200 up

Virat Kohli, Ajinky Rahane's 50-run stand drives India past 200. Bangladesh desperately looking for a breakthrough. India are 200/3, lead by 94.

13:26 (IST)23 Nov 2019
50-run partnership

Rahane slams a boundary and that completes his 50-run partnership with captain Kohli for the fourth wicket. India 194/3 (51 overs) lead Bangladesh (106) by 88 runs.

13:16 (IST)23 Nov 2019
FOUR

That's an early boundary for India as skipper Virat Kohli looks in the mood. Al-Amin bowls a full ball on the middle stump, Kohli walks across and flicks through midwicket. IND: 184/3, lead by 78 runs

13:04 (IST)23 Nov 2019
