MS Dhoni-led young India reached Zimbabwe on Thursday for their three ODIs and T20Is. While the tour, like it has been since years now, is again a low-key affair with most India stars resting ahead of the packed home season.
It however gives the young guns, who have performed consistently in the domestic circuit and the IPL, to get international exposure and impress in the limited opportunity which comes their way.
The team hit the ground running after touch down as they underwent fitness drills before heading to the nets. Sanjay Bangar, head coach for the tour, charted the plan and the team applied first touches.
After the session, the team attended dinner hosted by Zimbabwe Cricket. The Men in Blue will play the first ODI in Harare on Saturday.
Plenty of first-timers, the players are already pumped for their first opportunity in Indian colours. There is no dearth of talent in India’s T20 and ODI squads. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Dhawal Kulkarni, Y Chahal, KL Rahul, to name a few, have performed consistently in the domestic circuit, ‘A’ tours and IPL.
In absence of senior players, the talented junior crop has the chance of their life to carve a little space for them in India’s ever-growing pool of promising cricketers.
