Himachal HC recalls order on payment of security expenses for cricket matches at Dharamshala

The petitioner had alleged that both HPCA and BCCI had not paid a single penny to the state government for security charges.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday recalled its ex-parte proceedings against BCCI relating to non-payment of the security expanses for cricket matches held at the Dharamshala stadium.

The court, however, issued fresh notices to the HPCA and BCCI after the state government claimed that it spent nearly Rs 6.76 crores on deployment of police personnel during the matches.

The government also informed that since 2010, nine IPL matches and two ODI cricket matches were played at the stadium .

On December 9, 2014, the High Court had ordered ex-parte proceedings against BCCI on its failure to represent itself through the counsel.

Hearing a petition filed by one Vinay Sharma, the court passed fresh orders and issued notices to HPCA and BCCI asking the organistions to file replies by May 19.

The petitioner had alleged that both HPCA and BCCI had not paid a single penny to the state government for security charges. He also alleged that both the bodies had not paid other legal dues such as taxes since 2010 – when the first IPL match was played at HPCA Stadium .

The state government admitted that the HPCA and BCCI have not paid anything to the government on account of security charges for the IPL matches but a policy decision to recover the charges was taken only on September 26, 2014. Earlier there was no such provision.
