T20 World Cup: David Warner’s bizarre day out! A six and a caught behind

David Warner was adjudged caught behind, but Ultra Edge showed no spike as the ball passed the bat, and the batter didn't review.

A weird moment transpired in the second innings of the semifinal match between Pakistan and Australia when David Warner hit a 6 off a Mohammad Hafeez delivery which bounced twice before reaching him, before the umpire giving it as a no ball.

Hafeez lost control of the ball and it bounced near Warner’s foot before bouncing once more and almost rolled down the pitch. Warner then decides to move outside leg and swing it over deep midwicket for a massive six as he absolutely smoked it.

Umpire Kettleborough then signalled a no-ball due to the ball bouncing twice. But that was an incredible hit from Warner as he had to crouch low, get underneath the low bounce and generate all the power.

Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir seemed unhappy and he took Twitter as a medium to express his disappointment. According to him, Warner smashing that particular ball was against the spirit of the game and it was shameful. He also tagged Ravichandran Ashwin and asked about his opinion about the same.

After this incident transpired, Netizens also went berserk and took to Twitter to express their views. While one considered it as one of the funniest moments,  the other called ‘rockstar Warner’.

Warner’s bizarre night would continue as he was caught behind off Shadab’s ball. Initially, there appeared to be a slight nick off the bat as a sound was heard but the UltraEdge was a flat line and showed that there was a clear gap between bat and the ball. The noise might have confused Warner, who thought it was an edge.

Matthew Wade Opens Up On David Warner Not Using DRS

“Yeah, we haven’t had too much time to chat about it, just passing comments… I think there was a noise. He (Warner) wasn’t sure, maybe his bat handle clicked or his hand on his bat,” he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

“He didn’t think that he hit it but I think Glenn at the other end heard the noise and to be fair that out there, that was the only thing that could have been so he was potentially thinking that he (Warner) might have hit it. It’s really tough in those situations. How many times do you see a batter think that they haven’t hit it and they have?”, Wade added.

“So a little bit of reassurance from the other end I suppose [would have helped] but that’s now how it [went] with Maxy. Maxy heard a noise and he was batting out there. So hopefully something like that doesn’t happen in the next match but we just got to work it out. The thing is we get 2 reviews in this format so you can sort of say that we should have used it but that’s the way it goes,” he further added.
