Australia vs England 4th ODI: Australia beat England by 3 wickets in Adelaide

Australia bowled out England for 196 after electing to bat first. Travis Head, who came out to open the innings in place for injured Aaron Finch fired 96 runs to take his side to victory.

Coming in to open the innings with David Warner, Travis Head ensured Australia do not miss out on Aaron Finch who was ruled out due to an injury. Head started scoring in boundaries and gave a good start to the home side. But David Warner once again failed to deliver and edged one straight to Jos Buttler off Chris Woakes. Cameron White, who has been called back in the side, too failed to deliver as he was adjudged LBW out on Tom Curran’s delivery. Rashid Ali struck thrice to bring England back in the game dismissing Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis in quick succession to bring a few hopes to England. Head continued to go about his business, scoring his 7th half century. He and Tim Paine stitched a partnership to steer Australia to victory, before he was caught at mid-on off Mark Wood on 96. Pat Cummins got run out on 2 with Australia still needing 12 runs to win, leaving Tim Paine incharge to do the job, who completed it for his side. Australia beat England by 3 wickets, to take the series to 3-1.

1545 hrs IST: Tim Paine finishes it in style! Australia beat England by 3 wickets in Adelaide and take the series to 3-1. A consolation win for the home side but it came with some nervous moments in the end.

1538 hrs IST: WICKET! Horrible mix-up between the wickets and Pat Cummins is gone for 2. Good throw at stumps by Curran and Wood knocked off the stumps. AUS 184/7

1535 hrs IST: As far as equations go, it is pretty simple from here on. Australia need 13 runs to win and 4 wickets are in hand. They are moving along slowly but the business is almost done.

1525 hrs IST: WICKET! Travis Head departs on 96 and he misses out on his century. Mark Wood gets the breakthrough. Is there a final twist in this match?

1510 hrs IST: England need 32 runs to win and the skipper Eoin Morgan is bringing Chris Woakes back into the attack. Can he provide the much-needed breakthrough here?

1500 hrs IST: Australia need 50 runs to win the 4th ODI in Adelaide. Tim Paine and Travis Head are slowly going about the business. England still have a lot of job to do if they wish to push for a whitewash.

1445 hrs IST: WICKET! And Rashid gets another one. It is Marcus Stoinis who is gone for 14. Mistimes the shot and an easy catch to Jason Roy. Australia 136/5. Still need 61 to win.

1430 hrs IST: WICKET! Adil Rashid strikes again and a neat caught and bowled dismissal by the spinner to get rid of Mitchell Marsh. He departs on 32. AUS 112/4

1420 hrs IST: Fifty for Travis Head. He has taken on the role of the anchor in Aaron Finch’s absence and has completely taken the control in Adelaide. Australia cross 100-run mark and need just 90 runs to win now.

1415 hrs IST: Mitchell Marsh’s fiery innings has taken Australia close to the total of 100 runs. This is dashing England’s hopes of making a comeback in the match.

1400 hrs IST: WICKET! Adil Rashid strikes and it is the danger man Steve Smith who is gone for 4. BIG wicket for Australia and this could be a chance for the visitors to bounce back. Smith edged that one straight to Root at slips. AUS 70/3


1345 hrs IST: 10 overs are gone and Australia are 61/2. It has been a good powerplay for the home side in chase. They still need 136 runs to win and Travis Head has been really good in the middle.

1340 hrs IST: 50 up for Australia in chase and it has come at the cost of two wickets of David Warner and Cameron White.

1336 hrs IST: WICKET! Tom Curran bowls a delicious inswinger that went on to struck Cameron White’s pads. That is plumb! White is gone for 3 and England have got their second wicket. AUS 48/2

1330 hrs IST: It has been a good start for Travis Head. He has moved into 30s. The opener has struck 7 boundaries amd it seems like he has taken the anchor role much like Aaron Finch.

1325 hrs IST: Three consecutive boundaries for Travis Head in this Mark Wood’s over and it seems the match is slipping from England’s hands. Head is taking the responsibilities for missing Aaron Finch and he is looking  perfect for the task.

1320 hrs IST: WICKET! England gets the much-needed breakthrough and David Warner’s woeful form continues. Chris Woakes gets the breakthrough. Warner departed on 13 after edging one straight to Jos Buttler behind stumps. AUS 25/1

1310 hrs IST: It has been a good start for Australia. Both the openers are taking it slow and they can afford to do so because the target is not too low. The only way England can afford to get back into the game is by taking quick wickets.

1300 hrs IST: Here we go with Australia’s chase. David Warner and Travis Head are out to open. No Aaron Finch today and it is up to Head to give a solid start here in Adelaide. Chris Woakes starts with the new ball.

1202 hrs IST: WICKET! And that’s the wicket Australia wanted. Tom Curran is gone for 35. Slow ball doing the trick. England are bowled out for 196.

1155 hrs IST: WICKET! Chris Woakes is gone and it has been a terrific innings from him. He mistimed that striaght drive off Andrew Tye, and gives away an easy catch to substitute Glenn Maxwell. ENG 180/9

1145 hrs IST: 40 overs are gone an England have reached 162/8. Still 10 overs are remaining and the visitors will hope they can survive here to play full 50 overs. Chris Woakes is batting on 64* while Tom Curran, who is playing in place of Liam Plunkett is on 19*. How far can England survive?

1137 hrs IST: Chris Woakes slams fifty in 60 balls and that’s back-to-back half century from the allrounder. He is fighting it hard in the middle to take England close to 200.

1125 hrs IST: Chris Woakes was scoring boundaries when he came out in the middle but it seems now he is just looking to survive in the middle, hoping to take England close to 200.

1055 hrs IST: 100 up for Australia and it has taken 29 overs for the visitors to reach the milestone. What a day it has been for the side that have been so dominant in the first 3 ODIs.

1045 hrs IST: Chris Woakes fired  a quick fifty and played a late cameo in the 3rd ODI at SCG. Can he repeat his performance here in Adelaide?

1015 hrs IST: England are trying to get back the momentum. Some close chances for Moeen and Morgan but they have survived. After 17 overs, England are 48 for the loss of five wickets.

1000 hrs IST: England with a small recovery here. Morgan and Moeen have taken their team to 35 for 5 after 15 overs. Australia will like to bowl them out as soon as possible and not waste what was a terrific start for them

0907 hrs IST: WICKET! Australia on fire in Adelaide! Cummins with a dream delivery to castle Alex Hales. Bowled’im! England are suddenly 4 for 2. It nips back into Hales. He is pressing forward to play the shot but it takes a feather off the the pad before hitting the off-stump

0900 hrs IST: England have to rebuild here but they Alex Hales and Bairstow at the crease so it won’t be difficult if they keep things simple. Both can bat for long. Pat Cumming and Hazlewood bowling in tandem for Australia.

0830 hrs IST: Australia have won the toss and captain Steve Smith has elected to field at the Adelaide Oval. They have lost the series but they will try to break England’s winning streak.

England have won the series. Australia are searching for their first win. The two meet again for the fourth ODI of the series and while England will look to continue their juggernaut, Australia will like to break it. The fourth ODI is expected to be another exciting one.
