Their 33-run defeat at the hands of Australia, their sixth in seven games, finally ended England’s title defence with two matches left to play.

Their fifth straight win took the Aussies a step closer to the semifinals. Though their spot isn’t confirmed yet, with matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to come, they are well placed.

Afghanistan are also in with a shout, but have to win at least one of their final two games against Australia and South Africa, and hope to benefit on NRR.
