Talks on Govt-formation after results: Cong

Congress said on it will hold talks on government-formation,if needed, after counting of votes for Lok Sabha poll on May 16.

Congress said on it will hold talks on government-formation,if needed, after counting of votes for Lok Sabha poll on May 16 and played down the political significance of the meeting between JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy and AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

To a volley of questions as to which are the parties to whom Congress was talking to form the next government, party spokesman Mohan Prakash told mediapersons in New Delhi that “talks will be held after 16th,if needed, when the election results are announced”.

To a query about the UPA trying to win new allies in view of the Lok Sabha election results, the spokesman said,”in politics, parties keep talking to each other…It is a healthy trend”.

To another query whether BSP was acceptable to Congress as an ally,Prakash refused to comment. He said the situation will become clear only after May 16.

Referring to the meeting between Gandhi and Kumaraswamy,he said “it was a formal and cordial meeting”.

Asked what transpired at the meeting,Prakash said it was known only to the two leaders who met. He said Congress was confident of forming the government and claimed NDA’s base was shrinking.

“NDA is shrinking…Its base has eroded. There is a clear undercurrent in favour of Congress,” Prakash added. He claimed the people of the country were fed up with caste- based politics and the regional parties and the results will indicate this.
