Backed by PMO on controversy over son, Rajnath Singh vows to ‘quit politics if charges are true’

The reports are plain lies, constitute a malicious attempt at tarnishing government's image: PMO

Coming out in support of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Wednesday rubbished reports about alleged misconduct by former’s son Pankaj Shah.

The PMO released a statement saying, “The reports are plain lies, motivated and constitute a malicious attempt at character assassination and tarnishing government’s image.”

“The PMO has released a statement on reports appearing in sections of the media mentioning the PM & the conduct of Union Ministers & HM’s son,” a tweet from PMO account read. “Those indulging in such rumour-mongering are damaging the interest of the nation. These reports are strongly denied,” the PMO tweeted.

Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had himself denied media reports about his son as ‘baseless’. “Rumours against my family members are baseless… I have spoken to the PM and the BJP chief who have also rubbished the rumours,” Singh said.

He added: “Will quit politics if there is an iota of proof against me or my family members’ integrity.”

The statement came in the wake of a media report that Rajnath Singh was unhappy over rumours being spread by “a ministerial colleague” and “party rival” about his son being pulled up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over some alleged misconduct.
