Members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, jailed former PM Imran Khan’s party, have raised their demands of investigation into violence cases on May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024 following a meeting with their leader in the Adiala jail of Pakistan’s Rawalpindi.
The PTI members also expressed their readiness to talk with the Pakistan government in its third round of negotiations in order to aid in calming the political tension in Pakistan.
On May 9, following the arrest of PTI chief and former PM Imran Khan, violent protests took place in many cities across Pakistan, while clashes took place in Islamabad on November 26 last year between PTI supporters and police.
Leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub Khan, Allama Nasir Abbas and Hamid Raza, met Imran Khan in Adiala Jail ahead of the third round of meeting with the government.
Hamid Raza, while speaking to the media said that they had a detailed discussion in a “controlled environment” where the committee members presented their viewpoints and overall issues to Imran Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023.
“We have a detailed meeting with founder PTI who once again demanded a judicial commission on May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, to unearth the facts so that those responsible can be determined,” Raza said, reported news agency PTI.
Raza further added that even after talks being held for several weeks, no progress has been made. He said that Khan suggested during the meeting that the commission should be headed by an impartial judge.
