Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has accepted the offer of becoming the brand ambassador of Tripura tourism, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has said.

Dr Saha held a telephonic conversation with Ganguly, known as ‘Dada’, and later expressed his confidence that Ganguly’s participation would help in improving the tourism sector.

“It’s a matter of great pride that former captain of Indian cricket team Shri Sourav Ganguly Ji has accepted our proposal to be the Brand Ambassador of Tripura Tourism. Had a telephone conversation with him today. I am confident that Shri Ganguly Ji’s participation will definitely give an impetus to the state’s tourism sector,” CM Dr Saha informed on his official Twitter handle.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and a few others met Ganguly at his residence in Kolkata’s Behala to discuss the issue. He was accompanied by Transport Secretary U K Chakma and Director Tapan Kumar Das.

After a brief discussion with the tourism minister, the former Indian skipper said that he is almost ready to take over the job of Tripura Tourism’s brand ambassador and said he would visit the northeastern state when asked to come.

After his return from an overseas tour, Sourav Ganguly is expected to visit Agartala at the end of June, sources said.

The BJP-led state government of Tripura has been keen in developing tourism in the state since it came to power. It has invested in a series of novel tourism initiatives such as modernised eco tourism, and tea tourism and ramped up the religious tourism sites through PRASAD and Swadesh Darshan schemes.
