Six people were injured in a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Ukhrul district of Manipur Monday (April 3) evening, the police said.
The IED exploded from under a handcart at a spot between Phungreitang and Viewland around 6.26 pm, the police added. While the motive behind the IED attack was not known, police speculated that it could be related to an extortion threat.

Most of the injured are non-locals who run shops and labourers in the Ukhrul district headquarters, said the officer in charge of the Ukhrul police station. The officer said this was the fourth bomb attack within the Ukhrul town in less than four months.
The last attack occurred on March 21, in which an IED of lower intensity exploded inside the mini secretariat complex at Hamleikhong in the Ukhrul police station limits. However, no casualty was reported in the attack.
