President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday returned to Pakistan from Dubai,where he had gone almost a fortnight ago to seek treatment,triggering speculation that he might resign under pressure from the powerful military following the memogate scandal.
Zardari,along with his daughter and personal staff,flew from Dubai to Karachi in a special aircraft that landed in a Pakistan Air Force base after 1 am local time.
The 56-year-old President drove in a motorcade from the airbase to Bilawal House,his familys private residence. Ejaz Durrani,a Presidential spokesman,said that Zardari had recovered completely and was in good health.
The President resumed his public engagements Monday holding meetings with leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Meanwhile,the army sought to dispel an impression that a telephonic conversation between Zardari and army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had anything to do with his return. An army statement said,He (Kayani) enquired about the the Presidents health. Hence,attributing anything more to this telephonic conversation is unfounded.
