Year on,Patna civic body ex-chief suspended for graft

The order was posted on the Bihar government’s website.

A Year after former Patna municipal commissioner K Senthil Kumar was booked on “130 counts of corruption”,the Governor Thursday suspended him. Bihar Vigilance Bureau is now waiting for the Centre’s permission to prosecute him.

The Bureau had in July last year booked the IAS officer,along with 13 other officials,“for large-scale corruption” in Patna Municipal Corporation “which incurred the corporation a loss of Rs 8.76 crore”. This was first reported by The Indian Express.

The order was posted on the Bihar government’s website. “Taking into account the seriousness of the matter pertaining to corruption allegations… K Senthil Kumar is suspended with immediate effect,” it said.

Vigilance Bureau Additional DG P K Thakur said: “We are awaiting the Centre’s nod to prosecute Senthil. We have a strong case against him.” Asked if the officer would be arrested,Thakur replied: “Let’s first get the sanction for his prosecution.”

Asked why it took a year to suspend Senthil,now on Central deputation,General Administration Department principal secretary Deepak Kumar said: “We had written to the Centre long ago… we had to serve three reminders to get sanction for his suspension.”
