SP,RJD stick to stand on women’s Bill

Parties remained firm on their stated positions on women’s Bill as Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar met with the floor leaders here on Thursday.

The latest round of discussions were joined by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav,RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav,BSP leader Dara Singh Chauhan,NCP leader and Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel and RLD chief Ajit Singh. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal represented the government. Kumar has already held discussion with leaders of the BJP,Left,JD(U) and others. Mulayam and Lalu described the bill as a conspiracy to finish the established OBC leadership.

“We are not against women’s reservation,we are only against the Bill in its present form,” Mulayam said. Lalu said,“We want quota within quota so that women from Muslim,Dalit and backward communities can benefit.”
