Terming Rahul Gandhi as the most deserving candidate for the post of Prime Minister,the Congress Wednesday said he will lead it in the next election. This came a day after Rahul said that asking him whether he wanted to be PM is a wrong question.
Congress spokesman Sandeep Dikshit said,As far as the prime ministerial candidate for 2014 is concerned,we have always maintained that the party MPs and senior leaders will decide. When the appropriate time comes,the party will decide. The most deserving candidate is Rahul Gandhi but should the party decide it officially and declare has not been the partys strategy and this has been said in that context.
The spokesman said that Rahul heads the partys election coordination committee and will lead the party in the polls and decide the strategy. The Congress Parliamentary Party and the Congress high command will decide whether he would be the Prime Minister,said Dikshit.
The opposition BJP,however,took a jibe at Rahuls remarks. Rahul Gandhi has realised that he will not become the Prime Minister as BJP-led NDA will form the government after the next elections, BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said.
