A local court on Tuesday issued a production warrant against Hasan Ali Khan — the Pune-based businessman arrested in a multi-crore money laundering scam — in connection with the passport forgery case, and asked the Patna police to produce him before it by April 30.

In all likelihood, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (law and order) will lead a three-member team to Mumbai to seek Ali’s custody. The police had lodged the forgery case against Ali last December and recently raided local passport office.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said most of the documents attached by Ali to get a passport in 1997 were forged. “He also violated several provisions of the Indian Passport Act,” he added.

The police said it had a strong case against Ali as he had submitted fake documents and even the person who collected Ali’s passport appeared to be an “imposter”.

“We have written to the Rajya Sabha secretariat to tell us about Ashok Kumar who had collected Ali’s passport, identifying himself as a bodyguard of the then MP and now Puducherry L-G Iqbal Singh. We have not heard on this from the RS secretariat so far,” said a Patna police source.
