Kerala beats Agra in tourism: KTDC

Tourism in Kerala has surpassed all other sectors of economic activity in growth in the last 10 years,emerging as one of the most sought after destinations of the country,even beating Rajasthan and Taj Mahal in Agra,Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairman Cheriyan Phlilip.

Tourism in Kerala stands above other sectors in growth,investment and job generation with annual revenue crossing Rs 13000 crore,he said while releasing a new travel magazine here

An average of 5.5 lakh foreign tourists and 78 lakh domestic tourists visit Kerala a year,he said.

“If some 10 years back,Kerala tourism was synonymous with such spots as Kovalam,Thekkadi and Fort Kochi,several new attractive places like the backwaters of Alappuzha have made it to the international tourism map,” he said.

Kerala’s reputation as a peaceful location and development of infrastructre in areas like Malabar in north Kerala also helped the state become a major tourism brand in whole of Asia.
