Karnataka ministers staff save family from drowning

Presence of mind shown by drivers and a bodyguard in the entourage of a Karnataka minister saved a family from drowning after their car fell into a lake near Thirthahalli,about 300 km from here,on Tuesday.

The incident occurred near Beguvalli in Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakars constituency Thirthahalli.

According to eyewitness accounts provided to local media,the incident occurred around 7 am on Tuesday.

A Maruti Swift car belonging a pharmacist from Karkala in Mangalore veered into the lake after the driver lost control.

The minister and his entourage,who were passing by the lake a few minutes later,saw the car and pulled over to help.

The driver of Ratnakars car,Chandru,escort vehicle driver Krishnamurthy and bodyguard Halswamy jumped into the lake to help the three children,two women and a man who were trapped in the sinking car.

Other vehicles also stopped and joined in the rescue. In the end,all six persons in the car were rescued.

Ratnakar acknowledged the rescue effort of his staff. They reached the car quickly and brought everybody out, he said.
