After the Surface Transport Ministry,it is the Information & Broadcasting Ministry that has decided to take forward the idea of billboards all over the country showcasing the UPA achievements. The ministry has proposed permanent billboards in big and small towns of the country highlighting the governments flagship projects like the NREGS,Rural Health Mission,Bharat Nirman and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. The proposal is for 6,000 odd permanent billboards, with themes changing every few months. The ministry has suggested that these billboards, which are certain to have pictures of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi,be put near railway stations or market places where maximum footfalls are assured. As of now,the cost drawn up is about Rs 100 crore. The Surface Transport Ministry earlier decided to put up 1,500 billboards along the national highways.
