Processions, demonstrations, road blocks and burning of effigies of the Pakistan government threw life out of gear as people observed a complete bandh across Jammu on Friday, expressing anguish over the neighbouring countrys alleged support to terrorists targeting India.
Atmosphere was gloomy in Hiranagar and Samba towns, where terrorists Thursday killed four cops, two civilians and four Army men. The gates of 16 Cavalry unit, which had come under attack, remained shut.
In Samba, protesters burnt tyres and blocked the national highway. At Sarore bus stand, the effigies of the UPA and the National Conference governments were burnt for their soft stand on terrorism and Pakistan.
While government offices remained open, very few employees came to work since commuter vehicles stayed off roads. The Jammu-Pathankote and Jammu-Srinigar national highways wore a deserted look.
The bandh call was given by various organisations, including the BJP,Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party,Shiv Sena and Jammu Bar Association.
