Assets case: Jaya moves SC against SSPs removal

The AIADMK chief is accused of illegally amassing Rs 66.65 crore between 1991 and 1996 when she was Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa moved the Supreme Court Thursday against the Karnataka governments unilateral decision to remove the special public prosecutor in a disproportionate assets case against her.

A bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam fixed the matter for preliminary hearing Friday.

Senior advocate U U Lalit,appearing for Jayalalithaa,pointed out that the Chief Justice was not even consulted by the administration before the decision to remove Bhavani Singh as special public prosecutor (SPP). He urged the court to hear his case and reverse the decision.
