ITANAGAR, JAN 13: With just five days to go for the Gegong Apang Ministry to prove its majority on the floor of the House, the ruling Arunachal Congress suffered yet another blow with two more ministers resigning today, taking the total of ministerial resignations to 20.
The two are Minister of State for Social Welfare Naresh Glow and Minister of State for Trade and Commerce T G Rimpoche according to spokesman of the Arunachal Congress (m), Sanjay Takam.
Releasing the resignation letters to the press here, Sanjay said they had decided to support the nascent Arunachal Congress (M) under the leadership of Mukut Mithi.
“Since the Chief Minister Gegong Apang has lost his majority in the House, he should gracefully resign to pave the way for an alternative government in the State,” Sanjay said.
Assembly Speaker Chowna Mein last night had recognised the 24-member Arunachal Congress (M) under the leadership of Mukut Mithi, which had split from the 45-member Arunachal Congress.
Mein told reporters night that though State’s Agriculture Minister Sobeng Tayeng met him at his office yesterday along with a group of members of the AC (M), a breakaway group of the ruling AC, later in a letter, informed him that Tayeng had not resigned from the Apang Ministry and his name should not be included in the breakaway group.
Tayeng was not immediately available for comment.
In a related development, T C Tok, chairman, Teachers’ Cell, and Kabak Tacho, chairman, Vigilance Cell of the Arunachal Congress, have resigned from their posts.
In separate letters to the party president, copies of which made available to press here today, they said they were “not feeling comfortable in the party” citing various reasons.
While Tok alleged “high-handedness” in the administration, Tacho said the government had “failed to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people and created imbalances in development.”
