CHANDIGARH, Nov 19: On the third day of the International Workshop on Medical Mycology being held at PGI here yesterday, Dr H.S. Randhawa, Director, V.P. Chest Institute, Delhi talked about the systemic fungal diseases in India.
Eight cases of histoplasmosis, a fungal disease, spread by bats have been reported from Chandigarh, while the maximum cases have been reported from Calcutta. Dr Randhawa stressed the need to have more awareness among clinicians to diagnose fungal diseases.
Dr A. Padhye from Centres for Disease Control, Atlanta, USA trained the participants for the identification of phaeohyphomycetes.
For sero diagnosis of systemic aspergillosis and cryptococcosis Dr E.G.V. Evans and Dr R. Burton from U.K would enlighten the participants.
