Investigations into the death of Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Singh Shektawat’s servant took a new turn today, with the district court directing the state police to file a case of murder. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramesh Chand Sharma has directed police to change the suicide case into a murder probe. The judge was hearing a petition filed by deceased Badanlal Rawat’s brother Rooplal.

Rawat’s body was found on the railway tracks on May 22 and the Sanganer police had registered a case of suicide. Quoting eye-witness accounts of the train driver and guard, police said the driver of the Bhopal-Jodhpur Express tried to bring the train to a halt even as Rawat came running onto the tracks and was run over.

A couple of days after the incident, Rooplal alleged that his brother was murdered and the body thrown on the tracks to make it look like suicide.
