Over 20,000 cases, including a large number of traffic challans, are likely to be settled in the Mega Lok Adalats — Samadhan-2008 —to be held in district courts on Saturday. The step aims to dispose of cases that have reached the compromise stage and to reduce the pendency in courts.
More than 10 lakh cases are pending in the subordinate courts of Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
Mega Lok Adalat Project Core Committees have been constituted, comprising the chief judicial magistrate, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and two senior-most judges of the district, besides NGOs and social workers. District and Sessions judges are the overall in-charge of the project.
Judicial officers and executive officers have been asked to identify the cases which could be settled in the Mega Lok Adalat. Separate Mega Lok Adalats will be held in the consumer courts.
